STCW significance in shipping

What is the STCW requirement in shipping? STCW stands for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, an international convention that sets minimum requirements for crew training. Basic safety training for seafarers includes first aid, personal safety and firefighting.

But these STCW courses, however valuable, only cover standard procedures. They give you the basics, but not the practical experience or skills for modern on-board challenges.
